Matthis is not such a great soldier at the age of sixteen; but as herald and secretary of the illiterate hero of Brittany, Bertrand du Guesclin, he stands his ground. A lot of daring, but also a lot of humor comes to the fore in this courageous resistance of the Breton to English rule. Then Matthis has to go to Paris to get money for the resistance in Brittany. The first bourgeois revolution is in full swing in Paris; a time full of tension and for Matthis, who has to play a double role in it, often life-threatening.
