Marije is fifteen when she flees Bruges to escape her despised fiancé. On her dangerous journey to the South, she meets the boy of her life, a singer, with whom she travels through noisy France. The Hundred Years War with England has been raging there for years. But times are changing: against beautiful knights who dream of tournaments, more and more farmers and townspeople are faced, well-trained foot soldiers, skilled archers.
