De Komst Van Joachim Stiller
'The arrival of Joachim Stiller' starts as a sober account of everyday and special things that happen to journalist Freek Groenevelt. Already in the first chapter something ordinary like roadworks in an Antwerp street turns out to be very unusual.
Groenevelt writes a bit about it in the newspaper and therefore comes into contact with the responsible alderman. This disputes that work was done in the street in question, but adds that terrifying things are happening in the city. Groenevelt is starting to become a bit insecure. If he receives a letter shortly afterwards from a certain Joachim Stiller, who was posted more than a year and a half before his birth, referring to his newspaper article to be published forty years later, Groenevelt can no longer ignore it: very strange things are happening here.
